Emily Makere Broadmore
Self-Directed Residency
Emily Broadmore founded literary journal Folly in 2022 to create a place for beautiful short form books. She curates each issue to encapsulate the Folly ethos of fearless provocation and art - profiling and platforming writers and work that may not otherwise be published. The journal was recently banned from 47 chain stores due to containing offensive content. In response, the indie’s have stocked, restocked and sold out.
She is a former political advisor to government ministers, and formally owned a boutique public relations agency.
Alongside Folly, she founded the Wellington Writers’ Studio in 2023 as an affordable members only community for creatives.
She is widely published as a social commentator and author of provocative short fiction. She is passionate about creating and enabling art that pushes the pressure points of society. Her debut novel will be published in 2027 with Penguin Random House.
