Raneece Buddan

RCA x Argo

As a multidisciplinary Afro and Indo-Jamaican artist, Raneece Buddan’s work is an autoethnographic reflection on her hybrid identity and that of the Caribbean diaspora. Curious about our history and origins, she looks at traditional crafts and artifacts from Ghana, Nigeria, and India that we lost connection to due to colonization. She reconstructs and fuses them together through a contemporary lens to reflect our present. Experimenting with materiality, process, and form, she creates new visual languages that reflect what it means to be “out of many people.” Her practice is beyond replicating master craftsmanship; it’s the journey of learning, discovering, and reconnecting. Raneece is a Maker working with oil paint, clay, glass, bronze, wood, textiles and photography.
