Zoe Fitzgerald
Overtouristification Themed Residency
Zoe Fitzgerald is a writer and beginner Greek speaker. Growing up in the Greek Diaspora and often visiting her family in Rhodes, Zoe came to Argo to keep exploring subjects of desire and alienation in her writing. During the Overtouristification residency, she explored how memory, distance and language shape the Greece she writes toward, complicating her place in it.
Alongside her writing, Zoe develops charcoal, oil pastel, and acrylic pieces that move with her through the emotive world of the story. She scans her artwork and handwritten fragments, collating and manipulating them into visual artefacts, both physical and digital. For Zoe, the more storytelling is treated as research, introspective and theoretical at once, the more continuous and connected the work becomes.
Zoe tasted success too early, as a recipient of the 2022 InnerWest Young Writers Awards. She has been recovering from this lifelong childhood overachievement ever since. She currently resides in Melbourne, Australia, writing her thesis on the conditions of possibility for autotheoretical writing to move beyond the body and its confessional subjectivity.
